Richard is an asset finance partner, specialising in shipping and aviation. He advises major international lenders and owners/operators in relation to a broad range of aviation and shipping (including offshore, oil and gas) work. Richard has acted for major international banks, funds, arrangers, export credit agencies, lessors, ship owners, airlines, private equity investors, charterers, private individuals and builders and manufacturers across the full spectrum of shipping and aviation deals. He has extensive experience in a wide range of structured and large-scale cross-border transactions, including in export credit agency related matters, commercial debt finance, Islamic finance, Japanese operating leases, tax lease structures, pre-delivery payment finance, operating leases, individual asset and portfolio sales and purchases, securitisations, capital markets products, joint ventures and restructurings. Listed as a “rising star” by a number of publications, in 2017 Richard was also recognised by Airline Economics in their “40 under 40” list of the most outstanding individuals in the commercial aviation industry under 40 years of age.

Prior to joining Cirium in January 2012, Rob was Vice President, Marketing & Analysis at BAE Systems Asset Management. Rob has also worked in the Aerospace team at the UK Government’s Department of Trade and Industry where he managed all aspects of market analysis and forecasting in support of the UK’s investment in a wide range of commercial aircraft and aero-engine programmes. Peter Sladic is the managing director of Capital Markets and Outreach for Boeing Capital Corporation, a wholly owned Boeing subsidiary. Sladic is responsible for developing and managing an integrated strategy that ensures adequate and efficient financing solutions for Boeing's customers as well as the company’s global stakeholder outreach program. Most recently, Sladic was the Boeing Capital senior director of customer finance for the Americas, responsible structure financing solutions for Boeing’s customers located in the region. Prior to that role, Sladic was the director of Treasury and Investments for Boeing Capital, responsible for leading its treasury activities related to corporate finance, capital markets, cash management and its process for undertaking financial commitments. Before joining Boeing, Sladic was the Treasury director at Juniper Networks in Sunnyvale, California. There he was responsible for core Treasury activities including corporate finance, capital markets, investments and foreign exchange risk management. Sladic led Juniper’s inaugural $1 billion public debt offering in 2010 and was responsible for managing the company’s $4 billion cash and investments portfolio. His responsibilities included managing the company’s banking relationships and credit agency related activities. Prior to Juniper Networks, Sladic was with Cisco Systems where he contributed in several roles including treasury corporate finance and capital markets, investor relations, and business economics and risk with Cisco Capital. Before his tech industry career, Sladic worked at Bombardier Aerospace in Toronto, Canada, where he served in a variety of roles including methods engineering, flight sciences engineering, contracts, marketing and sales. While in flight sciences engineering, he contributed to the type certification efforts for the Dash 8 Q400, and then later while in contracts, he delivered the first four Dash 8 Q400 aircraft that went into service with the Scandinavian regional airline formerly known as SAS Commuter. Sladic holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and a master’s degree in business administration from Arizona State University in Tempe.


Edward (Ted) O'Byrne

Edward “Ted” O’Byrne is a Managing Director and Co-Head of Aviation London. He is based in London. He joined Carlyle Aviation Partners in 2019 from AerCap Holdings N.V. (AerCap), where he was Chief Investment Officer responsible for all portfolio management, aircraft acquisitions, OEM relations and aircraft trading activities. Byrne worked with AerCap for eleven years and during his tenure, the company grew from $8 billion to over $42 billion in assets, the largest aircraft leasing company. Prior to joining AerCap, O’Byrne held several commercial positions at Airbus. O’Byrne holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Mike is an entrepreneur and pioneer within the aviation sector in China. Having founded China’s first operating lessor CALC in 2006, which has developed into an aircraft full life-cycle solutions provider for the global aviation industry, he is responsible for formulating the group’s overall strategic planning and managing overall business operations. Mike is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aircraft Recycling International Limited, Asia’s first mid-to-end of life aircraft solutions provider and largest recycling facilities operator. Mike is also the founder and Chairman of Friedmann Pacific Asset Management Limited, an investment company that focuses on aviation ventures. He established China Airport Synergy Investment Limited (“CASIL”) in 2014, to lead the acquisition of a 49.99% stake in Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, the largest airport in southwestern France. Mike obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Hong Kong and an Executive Master’s degree in Business Administration from Tsinghua University. He is a CFA charterholder of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, and Founding Chief Advisor of the Hong Kong Aircraft Leasing and Aviation Finance Association.

Lucy is a Partner in the Structured and Asset Finance Group at Watson Farley & Williams LLP and she is based in the London office. Lucy’s practice focusses on aviation, ship, offshore and other asset and structured finance transactions. She has significant experience working on complex financing structures, export credit supported financings, distressed debt transactions and debt restructurings. She also regularly advises on the sale and purchase of aircraft, operating leases, the structuring and documentation of pre-delivery payment finance in the context of new aircraft orders and post-delivery aircraft finance. A further area of expertise is in drafting commercial contracts common to both the aviation and maritime industries (e.g. purchase contracts, charters, management agreements, leases and hire purchase contracts). Her diverse client base includes major international aviation, ship and offshore finance banks, aircraft lessors/airlines as well as shipowners, cruise companies, ship operators and offshore companies. Lucy originally joined the firm in 1996 and has spent time in the firm’s London, Paris and Singapore offices. Between 2009 and 2013 she worked as senior legal counsel for European aircraft manufacturer Airbus in Toulouse, France, where she supported the sales, finance and asset management teams on all areas of their business.

George is responsible for all the Current and Future Value and Lease Rate opinions produced by the company, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date. He also leads the annual Future Value and Lease Rate forecasting process on all commercial aircraft and engine types, and chairs the Commercial Aircraft and Engine Value Review Boards which monitor Current Market Values and Lease Rates. George also has oversight of Business Jet and Helicopter values produced by other specialists in the team. His experience includes supporting aircraft leasing and financing transactions, helping start-up leasing companies with their strategy and growth plans, valuations & appraisals, working with airlines on fleet planning & aircraft selection as well as general airline business planning, and providing technical and commercial advice on lease agreements. He has also worked with the majority of aircraft lessors, aviation finance banks, aircraft and engine manufacturers as well as a number of airlines to support their decision making processes.


Ben Hughes

Ben Hughes is the Marketing & Business Development Director at Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance (RRPF) – a joint venture business and the leading engine lessor for Rolls-Royce and IAE engines. His current role is broad in scope, covering new business and service development, trading and account management of key lessor customers as well as marketing communications. He is also responsible for RRPF’s serviceable used parts business. After studying Law, Hughes joined Rolls-Royce over 12 years ago on its commercial graduate training scheme and completed various placements in different areas of the business. His first substantive role was in the contracts team focused on Airbus and he progressed to be responsible for the Trent 900/A380 commercial relationship. He left the OEM business and joined RRPF in January 2010. He was initially responsible for sales and marketing in South Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In three years, he secured $179 million of assets with leases attached. He then moved into his current role, becoming responsible for finding ways to grow the business beyond its traditional services and customers.


Mike Yeomans

Mike joined IBA in 2011 and is responsible for the Valuations team. Mike has extensive knowledge of the values and dynamics of the commercial aircraft market, and has a background in aircraft maintenance & mechanical engineering. Recently Mike has delivered a number of commercial and technical due diligence assignments, appraisals in support of numerous ABS (Asset Backed Securitisation) transactions and advised new clients entering the aircraft leasing market. Furthermore, Mike conducts large portfolio appraisals on behalf of major lessors. He also speaks at events and writes on various topics relevant to the industry. Prior to IBA, Mike worked in an engineering role for CNC Machine Tools under contract to Rolls-Royce. He holds a degree in Aircraft Engineering and is a Senior ISTAT Certified Appraiser.


Darren A. Hulst

Darren has been with The Boeing Company since 2005, and serves as Senior Managing Director and Deputy Vice President of Commercial Marketing. In his current role he leads Boeing’s market analysis and analytical sales support for Boeing Commercial Airplanes to airlines, lessors & financiers globally. His team also produces the annual Commercial Market Outlook – Boeing’s 20-year forecast for air traffic and aircraft demand – as well as maintaining near-term analysis of the market and business environment to evaluate production rate demands and future product development opportunities. Prior to this, Darren was the Managing Director of China & Northeast Asia Marketing, focusing on engagement with airlines, lessors, industry stakeholders and media in the region. Earlier roles included Market Analysis, Sales Strategy, Asia Marketing and Global Airline Network & Fleet Analysis. Prior to joining Boeing, Darren spent 8 years at Delta Air Lines, in various management roles throughout Network & Schedule Planning and Revenue Management. Darren is a graduate of Valparaiso University with degrees in Economics and Geography and resides in the Seattle area with his wife and two daughters.

Joseph Shanahan was named global co-head of aviation at Citi in late 2019, assuming the role at the start of 2020. Shanahan previously had industry coverage responsibility globally for the leasing sector and has been the senior banker covering the Americas, based in New York. Before returning to Citi in June 2011, Shanahan spent six years in the aircraft leasing sector, including a number of years at RBS Aviation Capital working in roles in both origination, where he worked on aircraft debt and operating lease transactions, and risk management, where he was responsible for managing the bank's portfolio of aircraft debt and operating lease exposure in the Americas. Shanahan began his career in 2001 as an analyst and later Associate in Citi’s Global Aviation Corporate Banking team after receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University

Mark is responsible for the customer marketing of Airbus’ aircraft to lessors and the broader investor and finance community. Mark began in Airbus in 1990 in the Customer Marketing Department. Following initial experience gained marketing to airlines in Europe and North America, Mark joined the Leasing Markets Division and was promoted to Sales and Marketing Director and later to Head of Sales and Marketing. Leasing & Investor Marketing, a part of Airbus Leasing Markets, provides marketing support and expertise to aircraft lessors, investors, financiers, aviation consultants and appraisers. Mark has been involved with the successful launch of numerous Airbus aircraft, including the A380, A350 and A330neo. Mark served two terms on the Board of ISTAT. He is married with three children.

Patrick Käufer is a Managing Director in Corporate & Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank in New York where he is the Global Head of Aviation. In this capacity, he is responsible for delivering the firm’s leading advisory, debt and equity capital raising capabilities to airlines, aircraft lessors, aerospace manufacturers, and other aviation companies globally. Patrick has been a recognized leader in aviation capital markets, including the Enhanced Equipment Trust Certificates (EETC) market, for 20+ years. During that time, he has executed more than 400 transactions, raising in excess of $250 billion for his clients. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Patrick spent 15 year at Morgan Stanley, including five years as Managing Director. For three years, Patrick was based in Germany where he was Morgan Stanley’s Head of Global Capital Markets and served as Head of Fixed Income for Morgan Stanley Bank AG. Patrick is a member of the Board of Directors of the Aviation Working Group (AWG), a member of ISTAT, and an emeritus member of the Deans Advisory Counsel and North American Executive Board of the MIT Sloan School of Management. Patrick holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Engineering and Finance from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s Degree from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He lives with his wife and five children outside New York City.

Mark Lapidus is the Chief Executive Officer and a shareholder of Amedeo. Before founding Amedeo, between 2005 and 2013, Mark was a Managing Director and a founding shareholder of Doric GmbH. Mark began his career with GE Capital in Chicago in 1985 engaged in leasing investments into corporate jets, truck fleets and industrial equipment. Between 1990 and the beginning of 2005 he was a Managing Director with Citigroup’s Global Asset Finance Group based in London and Madrid. Mark holds an Economics degree from De Paul University and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
